With its geographical and cultural diversity, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region has a wide variety of lands that have influenced its culinary heritage, rich in colors, smells and flavors, deeply rooted in tradition yet resolutely forward-looking.
What a pleasure to sip a pastis, nibble on olives, taste some tapenade on lightly toasted bread, be tempted by a bouillabaisse, succumb to some nougats, calissons and fruit jellies!
But what an unforgettable experience is to learn the secret of making these sweets, to be introduced to the world of Provencal aperitifs, to visit French vineyards in region SUD, to learn the history of an old olive oil mill or to take a Mediterranean style cooking class!

The morning tour of the Museum of Industrial Enterprise sets the tone. Industrial activity in the Pays d’Apt is characterised by three main natural resources – clay to make earthernware and architectural ceramics, fruit orchards to produce candied fruit and ochre to make colour pigments. The museum, in the former Marliagues candied fruit factory, introduces you to the various facets and colours of these industries.

APTUNION – CANDIED FRUIT MUSEUM
The story continues at the Candied Fruit Museum. The museum and multimedia space was inaugurated in 2018 in the Aptunion workshops. In the heart of the orchards of the Luberon Regional Nature Park, Aptunion is known for its expertise in candied fruit, an industry in which the town of Apt plays a central role. ÔKHRA
It’s the foreman of the the old Mathieu factory who gives you the tour of the Ôkhra Association. The guided tour tells the story of this former factory which produced about 1,000 tonnes of ochre a year between 1921 and 1963 and highlights the past and present implications of this unalterable natural pigment. Ôkhra’s venues and activities present the news of an original cooperative society of public interest, the Ochre and Colour Conservatory.
